How a shoot comes together on MiKiMI

You want to shoot, but you don't know where to find the other half. MiKiMI exists to make that first step easier. Photographers looking for models and models looking for someone to shoot with are in the same app. Here is what happens between signing up and the day of the shoot.

Finding someone

The home screen shows models and photographers near you, and a tab at the top switches between them so you only see the side you're looking for. Filters go well beyond area, gender and age: narrow by height, body shape, measurements, style tags and expected fee, and what's left is people who match what you have in mind. Every profile carries an introduction and past work, so you can judge whether your styles fit before you say anything.

From message to offer

When someone looks right, message them straight from their profile. Once the conversation turns concrete, open the chat's + menu, choose a new offer, and fill in the date, place and fee. Having those terms on one screen is the point: it keeps expectations aligned, so nobody arrives on the day with a different idea of what was agreed. Offers usually come from the photographer, but models can send them too. Either side can be the one paying, and an offer can carry no fee at all.

On the day

Meet up and make something together. When you're meeting someone for the first time, the ordinary precautions apply: pick a busy place such as outside a station, choose daylight hours, and tell someone where you're going. If a conversation makes you uneasy at any point, you can report or block the other person from their profile. If something needs to reach us instead, get in touch.

New to this

You don't need experience to start. If you've never modelled, or you're still building out your kit, you can set up a profile and reach out to people who catch your eye. Sign up, see who's nearby, and go from there. Joining is free. The app is on the App Store and Google Play, and what we are building covers where it is going.

How to get more matches

  • Add one photo where your face is visible. If that isn't possible, a side profile or a shot that conveys your style works too.
  • Fill the profile text to the end. A page full of blanks is the most common reason people move on.
  • Post at least three pieces of work. Range is more persuasive than three versions of the same shot.
  • Fill in area, height, body shape and expected fee. Those are the fields the filters search on.
  • Add every area you can actually get to, up to five. Search matches on activity areas, so each one you add is another set of results you appear in.
  • In a first message, say what you liked about their work. One sentence is enough.
  • Be concrete about what you want to shoot. A location, a mood or an outfit gives the conversation something to move on.
  • Offer two or three dates at once. It cuts the back and forth considerably.
  • Reply promptly. The people browsing at the same time as you are the ones who get booked first.

Common questions

Q Who can use the app?

You need to be 18 or older and not enrolled in high school or below. You must meet this at the point of registration, and we may ask you to confirm your age.

Q Can I use it with no experience?

Yes. Whether you have never modelled or are still building out your kit, you can set up a profile and start reaching out to people who catch your eye.

Q Who pays the fee?

When you create an offer you choose which side pays. You can also leave the amount unset and shoot for free. The terms stay on the offer screen, so you can check them later.

Q Can I post the photos on my own social media?

That depends on what the two of you agreed. If you want to post the results, confirm it with the other person while you are still discussing the offer.

Q Can anyone see my profile?

Profiles are visible inside the app only. They are not published on the web and do not appear in search results.

Q What if my plans change?

You can change or cancel an offer after creating it, and the other person is notified when you do. A notification on its own does not explain why, so send a short message in the chat as well. It is more considerate, and it puts the other person at ease. The earlier you say something, the easier it is to rearrange.

Q What if a conversation makes me uneasy?

You can report or block the other person from their profile. If there is something you want us to know, get in touch through the contact page.
